Tues Jan 28, 7-9pm, Cheshire

Greg Woodsbie Trio-Quartet

This is a low-key gig we’re going to be doing, every other Tuesday or so, at a really hip and chill cocktail bar in the South Wedge! Greg Woodsbie on keys and percussion, Dean Keller on bass clarinet, and myself on upright bass.

Sat Feb 1, 7:30pm, Local Sound Collaborative, $10

The Archive Ravens & Einstein’s Dreams

Very excited to do a double bill with the Archive Ravens, and bring the full band lineup of Einstein’s Dreams back out into the world! Come on out, the space is lovely, the community is great, and the vibes are immaculate.

Thurs Feb 13, 6-9pm, Studio Lounge

Gordon Webster Trio

Swinging jazz, but we’ll probably add some pop/groove twists to fit the space- Studio Lounge has been hosting jazz for like two years now, almost every Thursday, and it’s real posh! Very nice food and drink too.

Sat Feb 15, 7-11pm, The Rose Room, $20

Groove Juice Swing presents The Sweetheart Ball w/ Gretta and the Getaway

Live swing dance with Gretta Cavatassi, an excellent singer from NYC. Swing dance lesson at 7pm, band plays at 8pm.

Friday Feb 21, Flour City Station

Head To The Roots plays Folky Tonk festival!

Buncha awesome acts on this (including my friend Tyler Westcott), it’s a preview of the summer season at the G Lodge.

Saturday Feb 22, 7:30-11pm, Woodcliff Hotel

Gordon Webster with Julia Weatherholtz

You know it’s gonna be good. Swinging jazz.

Sunday Feb 23, 4pm, Fanatics Pub

Crossroads Winter Festival with the Gabe Stillman Band!

I’ve toured all over the east coast with Gabe (and the Carribean!), but it’s rare I get to play a gig with him in the Rochester area. Come hear the hard stompin’ blues, with a healthy dose of soul, funk, and rock. I’m super proud of where we’ve taken this band, I’d love for you to hear what we’ve got going on. (Oh yeah, and it’ll probably sell out- Gabe is very popular, and Steve Grills is playing after us! Get your tickets soon.)

Tuesday Feb 25, 5-8pm, Lila’s

Swordfish Collective returns!

My soul/funk/jazz power group. We don’t have too many gigs booked right now, so this is your chance to catch us around town. Lila’s Tuesday night music series is one of the best jazz hangs in Rochester at the moment, with killer cocktails and food.

Friday Feb 28, 7pm, Spire Center, Plymouth, MA

Gabe Stillman Band!

Like I said, lots of out of town shows with him… Love to see some of my New England friends at this!

Sunday March 2, Muck Duck Studio

Einstein’s Dreams plays Positive Masculinity: an art exhibit opening!

Monday March 3, 7-9pm, The Little Café

Mondays in March: Duos! With Bernie Heveron

My annual residency at The Little Café returns, this time on Mondays. A different duo partner will be joining me every week. This week, it’s my Uncle Bernie Heveron! An integral part of the Rochester music scene for decades, Bernie has played with Colorblind James Experience (including on their local hit A Different Bob), P.V. Nunes Band, and about a gazillion other bands along the way- and he was a hugely influential bass and guitar player for me growing up. One of my favorite things in the Rochester music scene is when I introduce myself to a musician, and they say “oh, any relation to Bernie Heveron?” Come feel the warm vibes and hear the cool folk and jazz.

Thursday-Saturday March 6-8, Fairport High School

Hadestown

I’ll be playing trombone in Fairport High School’s production of Hadestown, under the direction of Bill Tiberio. If the soundtrack is any indication, this is gonna be a reeeeeal good one.

Monday March 10, 7-9pm, The Little Café

Mondays in March: Duos! With Gordon Webster

My annual residency at The Little Café returns, this time on Mondays. A different duo partner will be joining me every week. This week, it’s Gordon Webster, one of my absolute favorite musicians to play with. I’ve traveled around the US with him, gone to Canada and South Korea, and I really don’t think Rochester realizes what a gem they have in him. An absolute swinging monster, a joyful improviser and bandleader, and a great dude. Don’t know exactly what we’re gonna play, but it’s gonna be on fire.

Wednesday March 12, 6:30-8, Faircraft Brauhaus

Dean Keller’s Soul Jazz Joint

Dean is a superb woodwind player, one of the few who knows how to rock the bass clarinet, and I’m delighted to join his band for this.

Friday March 14, 7-10:30, The Lovin’ Cup, $10

Einstein’s Dreams, with Hemlock Sun

So delighted to bring Einstein’s Dreams back to The Lovin’ Cup! And we’re bringing recent friend and collaborator Noah Derosier, also known as Hemlock Sun- Chris Palace (drummer for Einstein and Head To The Roots) and I have been playing with him lately, and he’s a delightful, unique songwriter, blending jazz ideas with soulful indie folk (kinda like Einstein’s Dreams- that’s why we got him!). Doors at 7pm, band plays at 8:30pm.

Saturday March 15, Hollerhorn Distilling, Naples, NY

Benny Bleu

Benny is a fantastic banjo and guitar player, and we’ve been slowly building up some duo repertoire in secret. This will be the debut of his new band that I’m playing upright bass in. Beautiful old-time and folk singer-songwriter stuff, about our place in nature and the universe… (see why I like it?)

Monday March 17, 7-9pm, The Little Café

Mondays in March: Duos!

My annual residency at The Little Café returns, this time on Mondays. A different duo partner will be joining me every week.

Monday March 24, 7-9pm, The Little Café

Mondays in March: Duos! With Benny Bleu

My annual residency at The Little Café returns, this time on Mondays. A different duo partner will be joining me every week. This week, it’s Benny Bleu, banjo and guitar player extraordinaire, and an absolutely lovely singer-songwriter. We’ve been slowly building up some duo repertoire in secret- some of my stuff, some of his, a few Einstein’s Dreams songs, a couple fiddle tunes, maybe a handful of covers… it’s gonna be a real tasty evening of folk music!
